Portuguese Interpreter for Live Phone Calls

A Brazilian Portuguese interpreter you conference into a call you are already on. Your employee stays on the line and speaks English. We carry the language in both directions, in real time. No app, no download and no hardware for the person on the other end.

  • No app or download for the caller
  • Flat monthly pricing, no per-minute fees
  • Works on mobile, landline, VoIP or speakerphone
The difference

How this is different from every other option

Traditional interpreter companies add a third person to the phone call. A real-time AI phone interpreter replaces the employee entirely. We do neither. The employee stays on the call and we carry the language.

When a third party joins a call, the conversation slows down and your caller ends up speaking to someone who does not work for you. When AI replaces the employee, nobody in your organisation is accountable for what was said.

Interpreterly keeps your person in the conversation and handles only the language.
How it works

How a Portuguese interpreter joins your call

You conference Interpreterly into the call the same way you would add any third number. It works on a mobile, a landline, a VoIP handset or a speakerphone. There is no phone system change — see how it works on a real call.

The caller does nothing. They do not download anything, create an account or press a key. From their side it is a normal phone call in their own language.
  1. 1 Your employee takes the call as normal.
  2. 2 They add Interpreterly to the line.
  3. 3 Your employee speaks English. The caller hears Portuguese.
  4. 4 The caller speaks Portuguese. Your employee hears English.
  5. 5 A transcript and recording arrive in your portal afterwards.
Which Portuguese

Brazilian Portuguese, said plainly

Interpreterly runs Brazilian Portuguese. The two varieties differ enough in vocabulary and pronunciation that a speaker notices immediately, and most providers list Portuguese without saying which one you will get. We say which one.

Most Portuguese-speaking callers in the United States are Brazilian, with the largest communities in Massachusetts, Florida, New Jersey and New York. If you need European Portuguese specifically, tell us before you sign up rather than after.

Accuracy

The part that breaks most interpreted calls

Interpreted calls rarely fall apart on the conversation. They fall apart on a misheard email address, a transposed date of birth or a policy number that was one digit off.

Interpreterly reads names, email addresses, phone numbers and ID numbers back to confirm them before the call moves on. Accuracy on those specific items runs at approximately 99 percent.

Pricing reality

What per-minute Portuguese interpretation costs

Per-minute interpretation looks cheap on a rate card and expensive on an invoice, because of the minimum charge. Most providers bill a minimum of two to five minutes on every call, however short it was.

Portuguese usually costs more per minute than Spanish, because the interpreter pool is smaller. A front desk making short calls all day pays that premium and that minimum on every single one — it's worth taking ten minutes to compare your current per-minute spend before you look at plans.

The math nobody publishes

30-second question = 5-minute conversation

Same minimum charge, either way.

200 short calls / day = minimum billed 200 times

Every short call still hits the floor rate.

Portuguese per minute > Spanish per minute

Smaller interpreter pool, higher rate.

Where it's used

Where Portuguese interpretation gets used most

Front desk

Medical and dental front desks

Appointment booking, reminders and billing questions in areas with large Brazilian communities. Greater Boston, South Florida and northern New Jersey have the highest density. See our phone interpretation for medical practices.

Property

Property management and leasing

Maintenance requests, leasing questions and resident calls. High volume, short calls, and almost never staffed in Portuguese. See interpretation for property management calls.

Claims

Insurance and claims calls

Policy questions and claims intake, where a misheard number means a second call.

Honest limits

What Interpreterly does not do

  • It handles spoken conversation only. It does not work on documents, contracts or websites, and it is not a document translation service.
  • It is not a replacement for a qualified human interpreter where one is legally required.
  • It is not an interpreter scheduling or workforce system. No rostering, dispatch or credentialing.
  • We run Brazilian Portuguese. Do not assume European Portuguese without asking us first.
Interpreterly is built for routine live calls. For a medical examination or any setting where the law requires a qualified human interpreter, use one. We are not competing for that call. Read HIPAA and language-access compliance.
FAQ

Common questions about Portuguese interpretation on calls

Do you interpret Brazilian or European Portuguese?

Interpreterly runs Brazilian Portuguese. The two varieties differ enough that speakers notice. Most Portuguese-speaking callers in the United States are Brazilian. If you specifically need European Portuguese, ask us before signing up.

How does a Portuguese interpreter join a phone call?

You conference the interpreter into the call you are already on, the same way you would add any third number. It works on mobile, landline, VoIP and speakerphone. The caller needs no app, no download and no account.

What is the difference between an interpreter and a translator?

An interpreter works with spoken language, live, as a conversation happens. A translator works with written text, such as documents, contracts and websites. Interpreterly is an interpreter service. It works on phone calls and does not handle written material.

Is there a per-minute charge?

No. Interpreterly is priced as a flat monthly fee with no per-minute billing and no minimum charge per call. This matters more for Portuguese than Spanish, because per-minute rates for smaller-pool languages are usually higher.

Is this a replacement for a human Portuguese interpreter?

No. Interpreterly handles routine live calls such as scheduling, reminders and service conversations. Where the law requires a qualified human interpreter, use one. We do not compete for those conversations.
